The Mercedes SL550 is the ultimate performance machine, exuding performance and the highest in luxury.  Powered by a 4.6-liter V8 twin-turbo, this roadster provides 429 horsepower of fun.  Not only can it get to 60 MPH in 4 and a half seconds, but it has an EPA rating of 25 MPG on the highway and 20 MPG combined city and highway – better than the others in its class.

What will probably surprise you is the amount of storage and cabin room the SL550 has.  It’s not usually a requirement of a speedy sports car, but Mercedes gives it to you all the same.  Another plus is all the fun tech and gadgets on the dash, including Bluetooth hands-free capability and navigation.

In one review from Free Press, the review states, “The electric power steering is fast and direct, with good on-center feel. The adjustable suspension provides a comfortable ride and keeps the car stable under acceleration and in quick maneuvers. Big, vented disc brakes have good pedal feel and provide excellent stopping power.”

The Mercedes-Benz family, including AMG and Smart, will be producing so many electric vehicles in the future, that the automaker has given them their own badge – Electric Drive.  The newest electric vehicle from Mercedes is the B-Class Electric Drive that debuted during the 2012 Paris Motor Show in concept form.

“Similarly to the successful B-Class models with combustion engines, the battery-powered Concept B-Class Electric Drive also combines a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience with full suitability for everyday and family use,” says the Mercedes press release.  “Thanks to Energy Space, the B-Class is the ultimate all-rounder and the Mercedes trailblazer for alternative drives in the compact premium automobile segment.”

The power behind the B-Class Electric Drive is based on an electric system developed by Tesla.  This newest Electric Drive vehicle uses a motor that produces 134 horsepower and around 229 lb ft of torque.  Mercedes has said the B-Class Electric has a range of 124 miles with its lithium-ion battery.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wrapped up earlier this week after over 100 designers took their Spring collections to the runway.  Along with these renowned designer shows, Mercedes showcased their own design masterpiece – the 2013 Mercedes-Benz G-Class.  The display was set up center stage, allowing spectators to view its flawlessness.

The G-Class is a truly unique vehicle, as it is made up of the highest-grade material and designed with extreme luxury in mind; it is also capable of some aggressive off-roading and is truly fun to drive.  Only the best in advanced materials are allowed to be used in the building of this indestructible machine.

“The fashion industry knows better than anyone the importance of feeling fit and fashionable in the season’s hottest collections,” said Joey Gonzalez of Barry’s Bootcamp, who incorporated the G-Class in their fitness fashion event.  “The Mercedes-Benz G-Classdemonstrates how you can be athletically sculpted yet sleek and chic, embodying a classic confident look season to season.”

Katie Thomas, a designer from South Africa, created the ultimate luxury office using parts for the Mercedes-Benz SL. Not only is the office a testament to the artist’s skill, but to the exquisitely designed SL interior which is unparalleled in luxury and functionality.

Using completely original ideas and design, Thomas turned the speedometer into a magnetized pad, the other gauges become clocks from different time zones, the rear-view mirror turned into a free-standing lamp, the air vents became business card holders, and the gas and brake pedals became pen holders. Perhaps the hardest transition is the SL driver’s seat which an engineer helped her turn into a luxurious office chair. The desk itself was made from timber and steel was used for the desk legs.

Cape Town based artist Katie Thomas was chosen for this project with Mercedes-Benz in celebration of Cape Town’s nomination for ‘World Design Capital 2014’.
