The Mercedes-Benz AWD E63 AMG 4Matic is set to debut during the 2013 International Auto Show in Detroit.  This new car pairs Mercedes’ distinguished 4Matic AWD system with the elite E63 AMG.  AMG is the Mercedes-Benz performance division that takes production model Mercedes vehicles and boosts the engine for those who like a little speed.

This E63 4Matic will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 providing 518 horsepower and 516 lb ft of torque.  AMG’s performance pack raises those numbers to 550 horsepower and 590 lb ft of torque and adds several things including a traction control system with a Race-Start mode, helping the E63 to get to 60 MPG in around three-and-a-half seconds.

Mercedes’ 4Matic system was designed to increase traction in all road conditions by managing the amount of torque each wheel is allowed, making for a truly advanced and coveted system.  Mercedes has been perfecting this system since 1986.

The Los Angeles International Auto Show will begin at the end of the month, and each year the Design Los Angeles Board of Directors chooses a theme for the Design Challenge.  This year, the board has chosen “Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025” as the theme, inviting all automotive designers to participate in the challenge.

The challenge issue explains that the vehicle entered must show that it can effective in the mission to “protect and serve” will considering emission concerns, population growth and possible transportation infrastructure in 2025.

Mercedes-Benz answered the challenge with the Energ-G-Force concept that runs on recycled water converted into hydrogen power.  This SUV concept is ready for any terrain and equipped with yet undeveloped technology that would help 2025 police to protect and serve.

“Modern and cool, [the Ener-G-Force] could also be a clue about a new beginning for the off-road design idiom of Mercedes-Benz,” Gorden Wagener, Mercedes’ Director of Design, told media.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG was introduced earlier this month and is set for its official debut during the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.  Mercedes released a few images of the vehicle along with details about what we can expect from the sporty car.

The new A45 AMG will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine providing around 370 horsepower and 300 lb ft of torque and paired to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.  It will come standard with Mercedes’ 4WD system, sports suspension, AMG high-performance braking system and three-stage ESP with Sport Handling mode.

The A45 AMG is part of Mercedes’ compact A-Series built for speed and superior design.  AMG is the automakers performance division that will be taking Mercedes-Benz vehicles and turning them into performance machines.  It’s possible the U.S. may not get their hands on this speedster, but we will get the same specs in the CLA45 AMG which is just one of many new vehicles from Mercedes we can expect over the next few years.

Mercedes-Benz has huge plans for the future and their current success is giving them the stepping stones they’ll use to get there.  For 2012, Mercedes was able to report record sales for each quarter and also had the best October the automaker has ever seen.  They were able to report a 6% increase over last years October.

Thus far, Mercedes-Benz has sold over 1,74,558 new vehicles during 2012, which is also a record number of sales.  Total sales for the Mercedes Cars division comes to almost 1.2 million units.

“With our sales record in October we have started successfully into the fourth quarter,” Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing for Mercedes-Benz Cars, told media. ” Our new models, spearheaded by the new A-Class and B-Class, are giving us significant tailwind. We are expecting a new worldwide sales record for the full year as well. In our currently largest market, the U.S., we are on record course with high growth rates and can thus again secure our market leadership since the beginning of the year.”
