Mercedes-Benz is soon to present America with the smallest crossover SUV they have yet produced in the U.S.  The luxury automaker is determined to create an upscale Mercedes-Benz model for every type of person and family. The demand for crossover SUVs is continuing to rise, especially in the luxury arena.  This new Mercedes-Benz SUV in Tacoma comes with all the luxury amenities, but at a lower cost.

The model will be called the GLA here when it arrives in a year as a 2015 model. It will be the baby of five classes of SUVs for Mercedes in the U.S.

mercedes-benz-gla-concept-officially-revealed-photo-gallery_44

“GLA rounds off the extensive SUV portfolio of Mercedes-Benz,” the automaker said in a statement.

The GLA will be about five inches shorter and three inches narrower than Mercedes’ compact GLK crossover. And it’ll be just about six inches longer and an inch wider than the new sub-compact Buick Encore SUV.  The size is meant to suit SUV fans in crowded cities, though M-B says the GLA will be sturdy enough for off-roading, too.

The SUV will be sold first in Europe and the German maker will display the Euro version at the Frankfurt auto show next month.

For the U.S., the GLA will be powered by a 2-liter, four cylinder, turbo gasoline engine rated 208 horsepower, 258 pounds-feet of torque, mated to a seven-speed automatic. No word on whether the GLA will offer a diesel.  The GLA will offer two-wheel drive or M-B’s 4Matic permanent all-wheel drive.

The SUV extends Mercedes’ move in the small-car direction: The GLA will join the new CLA four-door “coupe” at the small end of the maker’s lineup.

Other premium brands are doing likewise. BMW recently added the small X1 SUV to its lineup and has a smaller 1-series coupe and convertible. Acura adopted a version of the Honda Civic, called ILX, to give it a small, entry sedan. And Audi is bringing a small A3 sedan to replace the current hatch.

Pricing for the GLA has not been set. But the CLA starts at $30,825 with shipping, so the GLA is likely to start in the low 30s.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a roadster of unparalleled luxury.  It is offered in three very different models. At the base end there’s the Mercedes-Benz SLK 250, powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine providing 201 horsepower. What most are probably going to find the best compromise between price and performance in the lineup is the Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 in Tacoma, powered by a 3.5-liter V6 providing 302 horsepower. The top-of-the line, meaning the best and fastest model, is the sizzling V8-powered Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG. The AMG models are specially designed with the best in performance in mind.

mercedes-benz-slk-350

Over extensive drive time in the SLK 350, we’ve found it easy to get used to this model’s rhythm and drivability. With any of these automatic models, there’s a paddle-shifted seven-speed automatic pushing force to the rear wheels in a mostly smooth way. Massive, biting brakes are in store, either way, and new torque-vectoring control works with the SLK’s stability control to tighten cornering, giving this latest edition a lot of tech weaponry to tackle corners.

Two beneficial Mercedes traits that have carried over are a rigid body structure and strong, fade-free brakes. Stops from 70 mph are drama-free and use up 167 feet. Brake-pedal feel is excellent; the SLK has traditional hydraulic brakes instead of the brake-by-wire Sensotronic system that is difficult to modulate. A tight structure has always been a Mercedes strength, and the first-generation SLK was blessed with a structure that was largely quiver-free. According to the front office, the new generation increases torsional rigidity by 46 percent and bending stiffness by 19 percent. High-strength steel is used liberally and to good effect: Over even the worst expansion joints, railroad tracks, and potholes, the SLK shoulders the blows with ease.

The top is, quite simply, what the coupe-convertible SLK is all about. You lose some trunk space compared to soft-top rivals, but what you get instead is a tight, refined interior that’s long-distance quiet and comfortable, and essentially a coupe with the top up. Unfortunately, the interior’s still snug for tall drivers and for luggage. Outward visibility can also be difficult with the top up, and there’s no rearview camera system on offer.

Mercedes-Benz, the leader of luxurious designs, has released sketches of their newest addition to a long list of ultra-luxurious transportation.  The “Vision Golf Cart” is a recreational roller is a new and futuristic concept golf cart that brings the luxury and fun factor in golf to a whole new level.

The designs of the Vision Golf Cart are futuristic and fun, and seem to include features yet unseen on any current production new Mercedes-Benz in Tacoma.  According to the automaker, this cutting edge golf cart will be driven with a central joystick that allows people on either side to drive, and is powered by solar panels on the roof.

Among the tech gadgets included in the cart, you will find a state-of-the art media system controlled by touch screen monitors, and a multimedia panel with a rotatable docking station for an iPad or iPhone, which also allows duffers to communicate with other golf carts and the clubhouse.
Mercedes-Benz Vision Golf Cart

The cart features the newest in efficient heating systems.  The system is called a “heat scarf”, in the seat which blows hot air on golfers’ necks in case anyone gets chilly while playing a round as well as a “Fore” button — which may, or may not, sound like Siri — which quickly warns other players on the course of a misplaced shot.

The project was overseen by Mercedes-Benz’s head of design, Gordon Wagener, along with the help of eager golf fans and car enthusiasts who submitted their ideas to the car maker regarding the amenities they think should be put in the one-of-a-kind golf cart.

The golf fans that submitted the winning ideas were awarded VIP invitations to the Open Championshipin Guilane, Scotland.  Wagener said the design fits in well with the Mercedes “Sensual-Purity” design philosophy.

While only a concept, there is no word on whether Mercedes-Benz may follow through with the design, further teasing anyone who may want to try the cart out in the future.

While many thought that Bubba Watson’s hover cart may have been a step above the beat-up carts at your local course, the new Mercedes concept may raise the bar when it comes to the uniqueness of golf carts on the course.

Within the next couple of months, Mercedes-Benz will release the latest generation of its range-topping sedan, the S-Class. This vehicle has always been the ultimate in luxury for the iconic brand, and offers the same tradition in all new Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Tacoma.

The tradition of the S-Class began half a century ago with the 1954 “Ponton”.  It’s the first Benz that Mercedes considers a progenitor of the modern S-Class. This is mostly because it was among their first post-war designs.

The S-Class from ’59-’68 was most known for its tail fin.  1965 brought a jewel box in which most of the jewelry appears on the outside. Designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq—who also crafted that country’s paean to space-age terrestrial travel, the TGV—the W108 is flashy but classic.  Mercedes pioneered the muscular executive sedan by stuffing into the W109 the high-output engine from its dictator-friendly 600 limousine.

i.3.stick-shift-7-29-mercedes-benz-s-class-prejump (1)

’72-’80 brought us the lovely W116, which is known as the first “true” S-Class.  This means that while all the other vehicles on this list had an S in their model designation, it was the first to be granted this moniker officially by die Väter in Stuttgart. It also harnessed technology in the service of safety, being among the first modern passenger cars to include air bags, anti-lock brakes, a fully padded dashboard, rounded body panels to reduce pedestrian injuries, and an integrated first-aid kit to minister to occupants following a collision.

The W140, first seen in ’91, this S has been described as blunt and potent.  After this large model, Mercedes went back to the drawing in ’98 and created a graceful and lilting design. Smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the curvy W220 was presented to the U.S., and was, at the time, at the height of vehicle design fashion and performance.

The outgoing S-Class was first brought to us in 2005, and is credited with influencing the entire segment with its unique designs, in-car technology, cutting-edge engine and powertrain capabilities and luxury.

This fall, Mercedes-Benz will release the latest generation of its highest-performing sedan: the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. This ultra-luxurious, range-topping piece of art has always been the ultimate in luxury for the iconic brand.  Anyone looking for the best, knows to look for an all new Mercedes-Benz S-Class in Tacoma.

The tradition of the S-Class began nearly 50 years ago in 1954, created directly after the war.  It’s the first Benz that Mercedes considers a progenitor of the modern S-Class. This is mostly because it was among their first post-war designs.

n many ways, this machine is a massive middle finger to automotive evolution. There have only been three iterations of the G-Class since Daimler first began building examples for the Shah of Iran in 1979, and the latest of those bowed in 1990. By and large, the exterior hasn’t changed one ounce in the intervening 23 years and, as a result, the G550 is instantly recognizable. There’s no calling this big box attractive in the classical sense, but for those of us who appreciate the subtle curve of a well-crafted wrench or the weight of a fine hammer in our hands, the G550 is beautifully utilitarian.

2013 Mercedes-Benz G-Class

With a front track of just under 60 inches, the G-Wagen is nearly seven inches narrower wheel-to-wheel than its closest rival, theLand Rover Range Rover Sport, and nearly 10 inches narrower overall. That fact gives the G550 an incredibly vertical appearance that borders on the awkward, but it also means it can fit down tight trails that would be inaccessible to the wider Range Rover. Tall, flat fenders, a chrome brush guard and a steeply raked windscreen all harken back to the five-door’s military past, but there are a few tricks onboard that hint to the notion that the G has softened a bit in its old age.

Chrome running boards span from fender well to fender well, though the pieces are backed by some pretty hefty steel. They work quite well as rock rails in iffy situations. Yes, that’s the voice of experience talking. Look just past those boards, and you’ll spot a set of side exhaust pipes dumping just ahead of the rear wheel. At first glance, the bits look like they’ll be the first to suffer contact with any belly-scraping rock or log, but the pipes survived our off-road excursion without suffering too much abuse. That’s thanks largely to the G-Class’ wheelbase.

Mercedes-Benz has done something downright maniacal with the G550′s engine bay. There’s a massive 5.5-liter V8 engine snugged down into that squared off nose, and it’s good for 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Married as it is to a seven-speed automatic transmission and a two-speed transfer case, the powerplant can launch this 5,578-pound box to 60 miles per hour in around six seconds. Let me tell you, the sprint is downright hilarious. Get frisky with the throttle and the whole truck pitches ever so slightly as full torque piles on and those side pipes clear their throats. Americans like to make a fuss over how good we are at building boastful V8 engines. The Germans aren’t so bad at it themselves.

The base, 2013 G550 with 388-horsepower V-8 has a starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including destination charge, of $113,905. The starting retail price for a 2013 Mercedes G63 AMG is $135,205.

All 2013 G-Class models come standard with seven-speed automatic transmission, trendy light-emitting diode running lamps, blind spot assist and front and rear parking sensors with rearview camera.

Each of the leather-trimmed front seats had more than eight controls, including bolster and lumbar controls, to make them eminently comfortable.

2013-Mercedes-Benz-G63-AMG-interior-dashboard-1024x640

Passengers sit upright, in chair-like fashion, so front-seat legroom is an amazing 52.5 inches. Back-seat cushions were shorter than expected, but there was good support, a nearly flat floor and 41.9 inches of legroom.

The G-Class does not offer third-row seating. And, despite the fact the test G63 AMG topped out at more than $137.000, it did not include rear-seat entertainment.

The G63 AMG had awesome engine sounds that were readily heard inside the passenger compartment because dual tailpipes — two on the left side of the vehicle and two more on the right — protruded from just below the step rails at the back of the rear doors. These side exhausts were shiny silver-colored and provided a race-car look that’s not expected on an SUV.

The big, 5.5-liter, double overhead cam, biturbo V-8 bristled with power and came to life quickly. But this V-8 also managed slower, city traffic well without requiring the driver to tap the brake pedal often.

The 25.4-gallon gasoline tank didn’t take long to empty, however, and premium is required. There is a 5.3-gallon reserve tank as well.

The seven-speed tranny shifted smoothly in leisurely travel. Upshifts were noticeable during aggressive driving, and the driver can select sport mode, manual without a clutch pedal or eco, which automatically shut down the engine at stoplights to save fuel.

With 20-inch wheels and wide tires, the test G63 AMG transmitted vibrations and impacts sizable potholes to the passenger compartment.

The G-Class is, after all, a capable and durable off-roader, with a healthy amount of ground clearance, three differential locks and a low range transfer case for rugged terrain.

Four-wheel drive is always engaged.

A couple items surprised, though. The rearview camera did not include graphic lines on the display screen showing where the vehicle was being steered. And the driver’s window did not have automatic power up capability.

Mercedes-Benz in Tacoma is known for making the absolute best in luxury and performance. No one can create a vehicle with more poise and sophistication while turning heads in the street with superior styling. Now, the automaker has been working diligently on new advanced technology that will change the face of in-car tech and communication for the better. The technology is a Car-2-Object and Car-2-Car communication system, and will enable vehicles to communicate to other vehicles and the world around them. The benefits of this state-of-art technology is mostly for safety purposes, but it also helps out in the convenience department, as well as just being plain awesome.

This Car-2-Object and Car-2-Car communication system can warn a driver of an impending crash, as well as being programmed to take action itself to avoid one in certain cases. The system is designed to know in advance if there is a potential hazard in the road ahead or approaching at the next intersection, and programmed reflexes are much faster than a human’s reflexes. The system can do this by electronically communicating with its surroundings through different technologies currently being tested and developed. You can imagine how close this technology brings us to cars driving themselves, figuring out which car has the right of way, the best route to take and cars will be able to avoid the accidents that humans cannot.

Mercedes-Benz-Logo

Mercedes-Benz is is the current leader in this field, announcing earlier this month that they plan to introduce a Car-2-Car communication system as early as this year. Though whether it will be equipped in a production model vehicle in the U.S. is not yet known. If it is put in to 2014 model Mercedes-Benz in Bellevue vehicles, the system will be able to exchange information with other vehicles as well as the surrounding traffic infrastructure.

For now, a phone app has been created for the first production version. This app is designed to work with the driver’s smartphone, which serves as a transmitter and receiver. This means that certain existing Mercedes-Benz models can also be able to use the system. Most Mercedes-Benz models are already equipped with radars and sensors and will be able to handle the first production version of the Car-2-Object and Car-2-Car communication system.
